Wal-Mart stores advertise that they have the lowest prices, and in my experience, their prices usually are the lowest; but sometimes those low prices just are not low enough. Even shopping at Wal-Mart an average family can still spend over $250 each week on groceries alone. Luckily, there are some ways to decrease this bill without making your family starve.
In order to save money at Wal-Mart, you will need to spend a little bit of time clipping coupons from your Sunday newspaper every weekend or printing free printable coupons from the internet. I advise clipping every coupon no matter if you think you will use it or not. If you do not clip everything, you may find yourself at the grocery store saying, “Darn. I wish I would have saved that coupon.” It really helps to organize those coupons into separate categories such as dairy, frozen foods, cereal, soup, etc. Also, you will need an easy way to carry your coupons in the store. Some easy ways to do that are a notecard box, binder or expandable photo holder. If you start with a small holder, after clipping coupons every weekend you may find that you start to grow out of your coupon holder. Most expiration dates are near the middle or end of each month, so go through your coupons at these times and get rid of the expired ones so you do not accidentally try to use one at the grocery store.
Since Wal-Mart does not advertise sale prices, you will need to do a little groundwork while you shop. You will be looking for rollback tags, which are easy to find. They are placed so they extend from the shelf so you can easily see them before you even start walking down the isle. When you find rollback tags, look through your coupon organizer for a coupon that matches the product. You can find really good deals when you match coupons with rollback prices. Sometimes, you can get items for free after coupons. Hopefully, when these amazing deals come around, you have multiple coupons for those products so you can stock up. Another place to look for great deals is the clearance isle, which is located in a different spot depending on your store. Match your coupons to these items too in order to get some really great deals.
In addition, most Wal-Mart stores will match any advertised price from their competitors. Bring in a competitor ad to save on shopping trips to other stores. It is also helpful to know the coupon policy for your local Wal-Mart. Some stores have limits to how many of each identical coupon you can use and others will not accept printed coupons from the internet.

* Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
* Free merchandise (or Buy-One-Get- One-Free) coupons
* Store coupons
* Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
* Internet coupons
* Soft drink container caps
The following are guidelines and limits:
* Wal-Mart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when
presented at the time of purchase.

valid dates. Wal-Mart will not accept expired coupons.

There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a
scannable bar code.
* Only one coupon per item is permitted.
* Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by

***YMMV on internet coupons. Some stores won’t take them at all, some
only take 1 per transaction and others take as many as you have. If
you run into any trouble you can try showing them a copy of their
coupon policy, but there is still no guarantee they will take
internet coupons. Click on “Wal-Mart Coupon Policy” above to see it
on the actual Wal-Mart website.
Guide to Wal-Mart
Use the SCO (Self-Checkout) to avoid coupon scrutiny
You cannot get an overage at the SCO’s
Go to a regular cashier if you plan on having overage
Go to a regular cashier if you have a bottle cap
You can only use $20 worth of coupons at SCO
You can use up to $40 worth of coupons at a regular check out
(Without Manager Approval) – (You can use as many as you want with
approval)
If your coupon doesn’t register as being inserted in the coupon slot
at the SCO then blow in the slot
Some SCO’s are coded to only accept 1 of each coupon and will need
cashier approval.
Some SCo’s are coded to need cashier approval for coupons with a $3
or higher value.
Wal-Mart Price Guarantee
If an item rings up for more than the price on the shelf WalMart
policy is to give you $3.00 off the price the item scans for. If the
item is less than $3.00 you get it for FREE. One item per $3.00
discount. YMMV as some stores will just give you the price difference
instead of $3.00 off
NO MORE PRICE GUARANTEE AS OF JUNE 2008
