I recently watched futuristic sci-fi movies such as Star Trek and Terminator: The Salvation (the fourth Terminator movie installment) wherein people operated computers using voice commands. The computers in those movies are so advanced that they not only execute the voice commands accurately, they also answer back and update their users on the status of the operation being executed.

While watching the said movies, I was telling myself that it would really be a real technological breakthrough if computers really got so intelligent that they could operate solely on voice commands and even talk back to provide updates and further information. I’m not sure if today’s computers are already as capable and intelligent as in the blockbuster sci-fi movies I watched, but one thing I’m sure of is that voice detection and dictation, as well as voice-operated commands, are already being used in computers today. In fact, my cellular phone already has the voice command feature that automatically dials the name of the contact I say out loud following a single key input to activate the voice command feature.

I also know that there is a computer software that reads out lout what is written on a certain computer document. There are also voice recordings that are automatically played to warn users of certain errors that occur at particular computer operations. I actually find it amazing that the computer is able to read out loud what its user commands it read from a selected document.
